A Coruña area: The As Mariñas Consortium claims 11.5 million euros from the Nostián waste company | Radio Coruña

The As Mariñas Consortium will claim eleven and a half million euros from the Nostián waste management plant company for its refusal to deal with rejections for ten years. This has been agreed today by the body that represents the town councils of the A Coruña region.

The supramunicipal entity indicates that this amount comes from the payments it makes to Sogama and to an external landfill to manage the garbage that Albada, Nostián’s company, rejects. The Consortium understands that the concessionaire has committed a very serious infringement, so it will initiate the process to require the payment of that amount, with the endorsement of a resolution of the Superior Court of Galicia that ruled that it does not correspond to the town councils of the region on payment of this extra cost.

The Nostián garbage plant has not dealt with the rejections of these eight councils since on November 24, 2011, when the landfill located in the surroundings was closed.

The president of the As Mariñas Consortium, José Antonio Santiso, explained in the session the “seriousness” of the current situation of waste treatment. He pointed out that he recently visited the landfill found by the Consortium to take the rejects that leave Nostián and was able to verify that the percentage they represent of the garbage fraction can be higher than 55 percent, according to the regional body in a statement.

“Citizens don’t have to pay for a company’s inefficiency,” he expressed. Santiso emphasized the little room for maneuver that the Consortium has as there are hardly any landfill options on the market.

Other issues

The plenary session of the As Mariñas Consortium unanimously approved the entity’s inventory of goods and services. The assets are close to 750,000 euros. It also approved the payment of invoices for the treatment of garbage and laundry service for 434,000 euros, from the remainder of the treasury.

The plenary session was attended, in addition to Santiso Miramontes, the mayors of Betanzos, María Barral, and Bergondo, Alejandra Pérez; the mayors of Carral, Javier Gestal, Culleredo, José Ramón Riobóo, and Sada, Benito Portela; and the first deputy mayor of Oleiros, María José Varela. The Council of Cambre could not attend today’s meeting.
