A Coruña: Antía Cal and María Xosé Queizán receive the Otero Pedrayo Award | Radio Coruña

The Provincial Council of A Coruña presented the Otero Pedrayo Award this morning and it has done so by claiming the role of women in literature and pedagogy. The winners have been writer María Xosé Queizán and the pedagogue Antía Cal.

It is the first time that the award has been awarded to two women since it began to be held in 1977. The president of the A Coruña Provincial Council, Valentín González Formoso, wanted to highlight the commitment of the winners to the Galician language and the defense of the heritage. The pedagogue, Antía Cal, 95 years old, has assured in her address that she was a student of Otero Pedrayo despite never having been able to enroll in his classes.

María Xosé Queizán, writer, activist and initiator of the Galician feminist movement has assured that thanks to Otero Pedrayo we see Galicia with the eyes with which he saw it. The event, which took place in the Provincial Library of A Coruña, was enlivened by musical performances by Xoana.
