An interior of the closed regime module of the Teixeiro prison (A Coruña) died late this Wednesday as a result of an ifire that he himself started in his cell.
As sources from Penitentiary Institutions have confirmed to Europa Press and Radio Coruña Cadena SER has contrasted in union sources, the event occurred at 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday in a cell of the isolation module of this A Coruña prison, when alarms went off by the presence of smoke in the gallery.
The duty officers verified through the cameras that, indeed, a fire was breaking out and there was intense smokeTherefore, they proceeded to open the cells so that the inmates could go out to the patio and not be affected.
However, they verified that one of the inmates – who was in the cell where the fire had started – had not gone out into the courtyard and, with the appropriate protective equipment, they proceeded to enter the area.
The prisoner was found unconscious by the intense smoke inside his cell and the prison medical team immediately went to try to revive him, but could only certify his death.
Penitentiary Institutions has initiated an internal investigation, as is usual in any type of incident, to clarify what happened. They have specified, the court has been informed, which will also carry out a judicial investigation into this fact.
The deceased is a prisoner considered ‘dangerous’, as confirmed in statements to the media by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, Pilar López-Rioboo, who had just arrived in A Coruña from the Cadiz prison of Puerto de Santa María, given that she had an appearance in court pending. Second fire a week
This event occurs a week after the same A Coruña prison registered another fire in the isolation module, which on that occasion resulted in another inmate affected by smoke inhalation.
