NBA franchises still have a few hours to extend eligible players. It will need to be done by the end of the day on Monday (6pm in the US) and some are closer than others to getting a contract extension.
On the Philadelphia side, Matisse Thybulle and his agent were reportedly having “quick talks” with the Sixers recently. The winger is particularly valuable with the defense of him, because in attack he remains very discreet.
For Grant Williams in Boston, however, it seems more complicated. The inside was key to the Celtics’ success last season, coming off the bench, and he has already expressed a desire to stay in Massachusetts. Except he’s hoping to get a $ 14 or $ 15 million a season contract, which the franchise obviously isn’t ready to offer him. Negotiations are currently at a standstill.
Boston management is in no hurry as the player, if he doesn’t extend by Monday, will be free but “protected” by the franchise next summer. Clearly, the Celtics can match any offer from another franchise and thus keep Williams.
