The I Days ‘Guadeloupe in America. The Guadeloupean jurist Lorenzo Lebrón de Quiñones and his time: the forging of New Spain in the 16th century‘ are being held in a mixed format, both face-to-face Guadalupe like online. An event organized by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation together with the UEx, the city council chaired by Felipe Sánchez Barba and the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupeand which are part of the activities of the Holy Year of Puebla 2020-2022.
Thus, the scientific conference aims to value and recognize the Guadeloupean jurist Lebrón de Quiñones as a magistrate of the American Court of Nueva Galicia, who was “an outstanding servant of the Hispanic Monarchy in Indian governance as visiting judge of the Viceroyalty of New Spain and strong advocate for Native Americans», as reported by the Junta de Extremadura in a statement.
The inauguration of the conference took place yesterday and the presentations continue throughout today. The opening ceremony was attended by the alderman, the member of the General Council of the Judiciary, John Martinez; the director of the Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno; the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Seville, Alfonso Castro Saenz; the Guardian of the Royal Monastery of Puebla, Friar William Cerrato; and the historian of Law and co-director of the conference, Sixto Sanchez-Lauro.
Finally, in the closing ceremony of the event, scheduled for this Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m., the president of the Superior Court of Justice of Extremadura (TSJEx), among other authorities, will intervene, Maria Felix Tena Aragon.
