In the previous two March tournaments Karolina Pliskova dropped out with Jessicou Pegulaovou and every time after the debacle. In Doha she lost 1-6 3-6, six days later in Dubai she lost even more clearly 0-6 2-6.
And she came across the same opponent in her second appearance today in Miami, and it already looked like another crushing defeat. The 29-year-old Czech lost 1-6 and 1-4, but managed to resist and start a turn attempt.

With four games won in a row, she forced a third set and had a long lead in it. On the second try, she tore herself into a break and had another breakball at 4-2. But she didn’t change it, losing four games in a row and eventually losing 1-6 6-4 4-6.
Plíšková ended the match with her 33rd unforced mistake, she played four fewer winning strokes. On the other hand, Pegula shot 43 winners and made only 20 unnecessary mistakes, of which 14-2 in the first set.

This year, Plíšková played six tournaments and won her opening match in all of them. However, she managed to add the second win only at the Australian Open, where she lost in the third round with her compatriot Karolína Muchová.
In Miami, Plíšková did not imitate her compatriots Petra Kvitová and Markéta Vondroušová, who have already they advanced yesterday to the round of 16, and will not defend the final of 2019.
