An opponent for the leading position of the current resigned leader of the DSB and co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria” Atanas Atanasov appeared. Elena Spasova, the party’s longtime chairman for the Lozenets region, announced in a Facebook post that she plans to run for office. She confirmed her decision to Dnevnik and commented that she wanted to make the party and the people behind it more recognizable.
“I know what this party should look like and I know how it should be governed. No, I don’t want to be an MP. I know what I shouldn’t and what I should. I know it’s stupid not to have the courage to convene an assembly and yes, I will convene it regularly, “Spasova wrote.
According to her, it was the failure to convene a meeting of national authorities that led to tensions within the party, which increased after DSB leader Atanas Atanasov single-handedly decided to appoint the journalist as the leader of the Democratic Bulgaria list in the 24th Sofia constituency. Ivo Bozhkov, instead of the deputy chairman of the party Tsetska Bachkova, who was a Member of Parliament in the 45th and 46th National Assembly. Then the leadership of the regional organization distributed a letter to the media demanding Atasnov’s resignation and the convening of a National Assembly.
Atanasov then not only did not resign, but did not do so after losing the November 14th elections, unlike the other co-chairs of Democratic Bulgaria. Instead, Atanasov announced in a post on Facebook that a national assembly of the DSB will be convened to elect a chairman and national leadership. According to Spasova, such a meeting should have been convened in the spring, as the mandate had long expired, but was postponed due to the epidemic situation.
It is not yet known when the DSB national assembly will be held, at which a new leadership will be elected, but according to party sources, the deadline is February 14. The date of its convening depends on the party’s national leadership.
