Samsung often launches new products from its line of cellphones. In 2023 alone, this South Korean company has introduced new smartphones, one of which is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
As the highest variant of the S23 series, the Samsung S23 Ultra has several excellent features. On the other hand, its predecessor, the Samsung S22 Ultra, is no less interesting. Both appeared with their respective prowess.
Even so, it is important to know the difference between the Samsung S23 Ultra and the Samsung S22 Ultra. This is so that buyers can understand more about whether there is a significant increase in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which was released in February 2023. Here’s a full explanation.
The difference between the Samsung S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra
Design
In appearance, the S23 Ultra series actually doesn’t have much difference from the S22 Ultra. Samsung still maintains a boxy frame with curved screen edges. In fact, the layout of the rear camera is still the same.
The difference between the Samsung S23 Ultra and the Samsung S22 Ultra in terms of design lies in the choice of colors. In the latest version, Samsung provides more colors.
There are phantom black, cream, green, and lavender. In fact, they also provide additional colors that can only be purchased online, namely graphite, sky blue, lime, and red.
Whereas in its predecessor, Samsung provided four colors for the S22 Ultra. Available in burgundy, phantom white, phantom black and green colors.
It doesn’t stop there, another difference between the Samsung S23 Ultra and the S22 Ultra is the choice of body material. Samsung uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus + glass material for the back.
Meanwhile, the successor version has a different type of glass and is claimed to be more resilient, namely Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Screen
For the screen, there is no difference between the two. Samsung pinned the panel type to the same size in the two flagship series products. The compact Samsung S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra use a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a width of 6.8 inches.
Camera
Meanwhile, the camera is one of the differences between the Samsung S23 Ultra and the next S22 Ultra. The reason is, Samsung provides the ISOCELL HP2 sensor on its newest product.
The sensor is claimed to improve image quality in low light conditions. Meanwhile, in the previous version, the ISOCELL HM3 sensor was embedded in the main lens of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The configuration of the main camera resolution is also different. The Samsung S23 series comes with a 200 MP main lens, while its predecessor only has a 108 MP resolution. With this increase, the shots can be clearer and more detailed.
Unfortunately, Samsung actually lowered the camera specifications on the front side. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 40 MP selfie camera. Meanwhile, the successor only has 12 MP power to support the needs of selfies and video calls.
Chipset
Now, Samsung no longer differentiates the chipset for the European and other versions of the S23 Ultra series. The device comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
This is different from the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra which appears in two chipsets. In the European version, Samsung embeds the Exynos 2300, while for other versions, including Indonesia, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is installed.
The choice of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in the Galaxy S23 series is classified as an improvement from its predecessor version. Apparently this is because Samsung wants to embed some of the latest components and technology in its newest version.
Of course this will give a difference in performance on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Evidently, the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is also superior to its predecessor.
Memory
Memory is also the difference between the Samsung S23 Ultra and the S22 Ultra. The highest variant of the S23 series uses RAM memory types in the form of LPDDR5x and UFS 4.0 for storage.
Meanwhile, on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the type of memory installed is LPDDR5 for RAM and UFS 3.1 for internal storage.
Overall, the type of RAM that is on the Samsung S23 Ultra is superior in terms of data processing speed. The same thing happens to the storage speed, which has a speed of 4x and a write speed of around 1.6x higher when compared to the type of internal storage on the Samsung S22 Ultra.
As for the memory configuration, the S23 Ultra comes with three options, namely 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB and 12GB/1TB. In earlier versions, 8/128GB, 12/256GB, and 12/512GB memory was available.
Battery and Features
Just like the screen specifications, the battery business for the two cellphones is the same. They compactly use a 5000 mAh battery which is claimed to last a long time even if used all day.
The fast charging feature is also similar, namely 45W. Both the Samsung S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra can reverse charge wirelessly at 4.5W.
However, the difference between the S23 Ultra and its predecessors is in the wireless charging feature. It turns out that the Galaxy S22 Ultra can perform more optimally because it can receive more power than the S23 Ultra.
The maximum power that the S22 Ultra can get is 15W compared to its successors which receive a maximum of 10W.
In addition, the installed WiFi and Bluetooth features are also different. In the latest series, the cellphone has Bluetooth 5.3 support and can connect to WiFi 7. Meanwhile, the Samsung S22 Ultra only has Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6e support.
Price
Finally, the price of the S23 Ultra series is another differentiator from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. At the time of its release, the S23 Ultra cell phone came with a starting price of IDR 19.9 million.
Meanwhile, its predecessors come at a cheaper price, starting from IDR 17.9 million when released in Indonesia. But now, the price has dropped, starting from Rp. 14.9 million.
