A company in Orne purchases lost parcels from La Poste, unaware of their contents.

In Orne, Flamingo Box offers somewhat special packages. The company sells boxes… without knowing what is inside. Parcels lost or never claimed, recovered by La Poste, which are resold in the form of surprise bags. A boon for buyers.

You have already lost a package, but do you know what happened to it? Your package may have been redeemed… by someone else. Indeed, if it is not claimed after six months, the parcel becomes the property of La Poste. It is forbidden to destroy the package, so they are sold. An entrepreneur in Orne has made it his business.

At the Flamingo Box warehouse, packages are sold. The particularity ? They don’t know what’s inside. A playful concept that is successful. “We have different packages of different formats, of different weights”, says William Mourier. “We don’t know at all what’s in there. We imagine it must be clothes.”

10 kilos for 108 euros including tax

In the warehouse, hundreds of boxes are piled up: unclaimed or simply misplaced orders, which have been bought by the co-founder of the company. “I had the idea of not opening the parcels, but of doing it in surprise bags. 10-kilo boxes represent 108 euros including tax. So we try to put in slightly soft bags, boxes, then they leave with. For 80% of people, it is a question of reselling. Obligatorily, you refund the box.” A concept that hits the mark. The company’s website registers up to 100,000 visitors per month.

Delphine, unemployed, is one of their most loyal customers. “It will be the seventh package that I take and I always manage to make a small profit. In my second package, I had a wedding dress that I managed to resell for 150 euros. It helps me in my daily life, because the end of the month is hard. With 80 euros, we go shopping. That’s it, above all.” Next step for the company: sign new contracts with logisticians to recover even more lost parcels.
