Come with an old pan or an old saucepan at the end of its life, and buy a new cookware in recycled material. This is the principle set up in august 2020 the French leader in kitchen utensils “Gers Equipment”, which employs nearly 250 people in Mirande in the Gers. A company which is doing quite well in the face of the health crisis, and which is benefiting from a craze for “home-made” cuisine.
Half of utensils made from recycled material by 2024
Utensils brought back to the store by the general public are first sorted by raw material, then “sent to a foundry that cleans the raw material, before being sold“explains Philippe Bégué, president of Gers Equipement. “Initially, we set ourselves the goal that 50% of our cookware ranges will be made from recycled material within five years, so by 2024“continues the leader.
Compensated losses
Like many companies, Gers Equipement has suffered losses during periods of confinement, when the stores were closed. But these losses were very quickly compensated for according to Philippe Bégué: “we noticed that when the stores reopened, there was an increase in the consumption of our cooking products. With the closure of restaurants, ‘home made’ has exploded during lockdowns“explains the president of the company, who is finally going through the crisis quite well.
