a common language for the 112,000 cross-border workers

Sixteen intercommunalities in Lorraine, concerned by the border phenomenon with the Grand Duchy (112,000 French workers), adopted on Tuesday, in Bouzonville, a cooperation charter for the northern Lorraine region.

It is about “putting ourselves in the capacity to hold a clear dialogue with the French State on our common issues, in order to be able to be credible in relation to the Luxembourg State. »On subjects as varied as vocational training, early childhood, mobility etc.

This charter was born from the initiative of the Euro metropolis of Metz and its president François Grosdidier, because Metz is not officially in the cross-border metropolitan pole (PMF), which brings together the inter-municipal authorities closest to the border (from Longwy Thionville ).

The meeting took place in Bouzonville, proof that more distant areas are also increasingly concerned by the cross-border phenomenon, in particular under pressure from real estate on the border, and an accentuated labor shortage in the historic border basins.

François Grosdidier considered that this charter is a “great first, which also brings together the historic Moselle”, a reference to the Longwy-Villerupt basin, which became 54 due to the sharing of the Annexation. “But it’s not an extra structure.

The process is that we identify common problems, we try to find common solutions if it is within our competence, or we unite to move issues forward together at a higher level. “
