A taboo subject if ever there was one, sexual health now has its ambassadors: the Collective of Reunionese actors committed to sexual health, by its nickname CARESS 974. Among its members, the ARS and Family Planning, of course, as well as as various players in the voluntary sector working in the social, medico-social and integration sectors.
Officially launched yesterday, this collective’s mission is to promote, inform and raise awareness of sexual health, with a positive approach to sexuality. Its creation is the result of an observation: the people of Reunion do not know what sexual health means, limiting it to the sector of pathology and disorders of sexual functioning. Hence the conviction of the various actors gathered in this collective to embark, throughout this Week of Sexual Health, on the roads of Reunion to bring the good word in matters of sexuality. Especially since CARESS 974, notwithstanding the double meaning of its acronym, is intended to be a guarantee of seriousness, trust and reliable information.
For a week, CARESS 974 will therefore meet the people of Reunion to remind you that sexuality “must be lived in a positive and respectful way, without taboos, without discrimination, without violence”. Information also relayed on social networks (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok). Publications and short videos will also come to deconstruct all the ideas received around sexual health. The University of La Réunion, as part of the Health Talks, had already got the ball rolling last February, with a focus on research in the field, led by Dr Antoine Bertolotti, dermatologist at the CHU Sud.
