Anecdotes of Ages, a limited edition whiskey and art set by renowned British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, was unveiled on Wednesday by The Macallan. It is a collection to honor the legacy and history of the British artist.
“It is clear that the Macallan has built a new legacy,” said Blake, during a special presentation of the brand on his YouTube channel.
“My creative process is like a ladder: first it begins by gathering all my inspiration, then I analyze my considerations and finally, the creation arrives”, revealed the artist.
In collaboration with Sir Peter Blake for more than three decades, this collection has proven to be a natural partnership, the company said in a statement: “The Macallan has a deep appreciation for the time it takes to establish, nurture and protect heritage. as well as the desire to produce iconic creations and legendary pieces, and these values of timelessness are reflected in both the character and the work of Sir Peter Blake. “
“Over the decades, Sir Peter Blake’s unique and timeless style has transcended fashion, music and art movements. For this collection, each bottle of whiskey was carefully selected and the art labels created by Sir Peter Blake are designed to resonate with The Macallan collectors and the art world. Sir Peter Blake skillfully applies his particular combination of styles, from colorful lettering to likeness drawings, to various projects; most recently, the building envelope for Hyde Parks Mandarin Oriental Hotel, his largest yet, and his current project ‘Joseph Cornell’s Holiday’, a series of large-scale collages, “the statement said.
“I am deeply inspired by the incredible legacy of The Macallan and its emphasis on family, tradition and the natural world,” Sir Peter Blake said in the press release.
Adding that “each collage in the ‘Anecdotes of Ages’ collection is inspired by the history and legacy of The Macallan, one that respects time and craftsmanship, two essential components of my own creative process. I worked meticulously on each collage, drawing from the rich history of The Macallan Estate to complete a collection that is a celebration of art and whiskey. “
Each of the 13 original bottles in the ‘Anecdotes of Ages’ collection is hand blown with an oak stopper and has a label signed by Sir Peter Blake. They are presented in a handmade European oak case incorporating miniature photographs of Sir Peter Blake’s inspiring journey with The Macallan. The expressions are also accompanied by a leather-bound book displaying the label’s 13 artworks and corresponding stories, as well as a certificate of authenticity. The original thirteenth bottle will remain in The Macallan archive, but a very limited edition whiskey with a duplicate label and the same rare whiskey from 1967 will be released as ‘The Anecdotes of Ages Collection: Down to Work Limited Edition’.
“This exceptional whiskey from 1967 was chosen for its classic, yet distinctively colorful character, reminiscent of Sir Peter Blake’s work from the same year,” said Sarah Burgess, whiskey creator for the brand. “With notes of oak and fig leading to an explosion of hazelnut and strawberry, this is a truly special single malt that ends with complex flavors of chocolate and lightly spiced peach, in many ways its own work of art.
