Temperatures drop below minus 10 degrees
We celebrate St. Anthony’s Day with sunny weather over the whole country. In the afternoon from north to south the clouds will increase, but in the light part of the day there will be no precipitation. In the warm hours the thermometers will show between 4 and 9 degrees. Around noon the cold northwest wind will intensify – its gusts will be especially strong first in the Danube plain, and later in many parts of southern Bulgaria, at speeds up to 80-90 kilometers per hour. A yellow code for dangerous weather is in force throughout the country.
Due to the cold front, snowfalls are expected, which will pass quickly over the country at night and early in the morning. It will rain first in the Fore-Balkans and Stara Planina, and then around the massifs of the Southwest. Rainfall at times will be intense but short-lived.
In the mountains, time will follow the same course. In the Balkan Mountains and the massifs in southwestern Bulgaria, the gusts of wind in the afternoon will be hurricane-like. Everywhere the clouds will increase in the second half of the day and in the late hours. It will snow in the hours of the night. Significant new snow cover is not expected due to the short-term nature of the precipitation. Temperatures on St. Anthony’s Day in the mountains in the warm part of the day – between minus 4 degrees in the high to plus 2-3 in the low.
As early as Tuesday, the clouds will break and by Thursday the weather will be sunny with minimal clouds. It will remain windy and cold – even during the warm part of the day temperatures in many areas will range from zero to 4-5 degrees.
After a slight warming on Thursday during the day, on Friday will again pass a cold front, which will lower temperatures and snow in many parts of the country, in significant quantities – in the western half of the country.
By the end of the week it will remain cold with particularly low morning temperatures on Saturday and Sunday – to minus 10 – minus 12 degrees in traditionally frosty areas.
