Pablo Mercuri, director of the INTA Castelar Natural Resources Research Center, said this Sunday in CNN Radio that in the last week “a cold front passed and irrigated a large part of the productive agricultural areas of the country.” At the same time, he indicated that this “short-term phenomenon” meant “a hinge, due to the magnitude of rainfall, with an accumulation of between 50 and 100 millimeters depending on the regions”, beneficial for rural activity after a 2020 characterized by long dry spells.
The specialist of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology expressed in the program CNN Field, led by Martín Melo and Joaquín Pinasco, that in the week that begins there will be “very good weather for agricultural activities and crop management”, highlighting the relevance of “phytosanitary products and nitrogen fertilization”.
“In the longer term, there would be a decline from next weekend. And towards the end of the month there would be another chance that a cold front will enter that generates rains ”, fundamental for the crops of coarse crops such as corn and soybeans, while the wheat and barley campaign starts.
When it was pointed out that the Rosario Stock Exchange reported that the harvest estimate for corn was reduced and that without rainfall the figures would have been even lower, the climate columnist of the cycle remarked that “climate variability is reflected here.”
Finally, Mercuri referred to “the importance of the role of grasses in crop rotation.”
