A cobra bit a thief in Athens, living with her as a pet

A 30-year-old Cypriot was transported by friends to an Athens hospital yesterday afternoon after being bitten by a cobra. His condition is critical and he is in the intensive care unit of Agios Savvas Hospital, reports “Labor”.

According to information, the incident took place at the young man’s home, where he tried to feed the snake that bit his arm.

According to his friends, the 30-year-old psychologist was a snake lover by profession and had 17 snakes in his apartment in central Athens, some of which were poisonous and quite dangerous.

One of his two Instagram accounts is full of photos of poisonous reptiles, although it is unclear whether all of these reptiles belong to him.

At around 8.30 pm the victim was intubated. According to doctors, the 30-year-old’s condition is critical.

Early this morning, he was given the antidote for the venom of the Indian cobra, which arrived on a private flight from Cyprus, as there is no antidote in Greece.

The reptile that bit the 30-year-old is the Monocle Cobra (Naja Kaouthia) and is found mainly in India, China, Cambodia and Vietnam. The head is round and the eyes are small. The venomous teeth are located in the upper jaw. The length of the reptile reaches 1.7-1.9 meters. The maximum length is up to 2.4 meters.

This type of cobra has a deadly venom and when injected into the human body, in addition to neurological and neuromuscular symptoms, it even causes drowsiness and hypotension. Death can occur in some cases even within 60 minutes.
