A clone of the iPhone 14 Pro dynamic island made for Android

One of the coolest design choices on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max is the use of a notch as part of the overall interface. Instead of bypassing this area, it has been transformed into a “dynamic island” where useful information is displayed and naturally integrates into notifications.

Although Andorid smartphones have long had cutouts in the display, their interface designers haven’t thought about integrating them like Apple did. So it’s no surprise that shortly after the presentation of the iPhone 14 Pro, someone developed their own version of the dynamic island for Android.

Twitter user Vaibhav Jain shared a short clip showing a dynamic island-style notification for the Xiaomi MIUI skin. The theme is called Grumpy UI and is currently only available in Chinese. A feature of the theme was the hiding of the selfie camera in the notification. This update is currently under review. If Xiaomi accepts it, she will soon appear in the MIUI theme store.

While it’s hard to say how much the dynamic island concept will take root on Android devices, it seems like an effective way to use the notch aesthetically.
