The parts crisis caused by the pandemic has forced new restrictions on the production of Japan’s largest carmaker Toyota, the Associated Press reported.
Today, tomorrow and Monday, production in 11 plants in Japan will be stopped, Toyota Corporation announced.
All this is happening against the background of already planned for February reductions in it, which were announced earlier. These reductions will be made on different days in eight of Japan’s 14 plants, including the Prius hybrid assembly lines and Lexus luxury models.
Supplies are insufficient due to the lack of computer chips, which play a very important role in the production of cars. The reason for this is the shutdown of factories in and outside Japan for pandemic reasons, such as lockdowns. Toyota did not provide details.
Production in January will be reduced by 47,000 cars, the car brand said. Thus, despite the good demand for her cars on the market, she will not be able to fulfill the task she set herself to produce 9 million cars for the fiscal year until March. At the moment, all car manufacturers are frantically trying to get as many chips as possible in the conditions of limited available quantities, which further aggravates the situation, Toyota said.
