A child found alone on the street in Sarcelles, his mother in police custody

This is the photo of a little boy who takes a bottle, in the arms of a policeman, who was circulating on social media on Monday 24 October to find his mother. The child had just been found on the street, in the area of the Garges-Sarcelles station (Val-d’Oise). Identified during the night, the mother was placed in police custody as part of an open procedure for abandonment of a minor.

The case begins around 18 when the child, who is one year old, is found in his stroller, all alone, on the street, without anyone looking at him. He is also well dressed, clean. He is not particularly scared and remains very calm when the police arrive, alerted by witnesses, and take care of him. They take care of him before handing him over to childcare, which takes over.

The accident was the result of a misunderstanding

It remains to find the mother of the child. What the Sarcelles investigators immediately set out to do. They collected a series of testimonies, consulted the videos of the city, also investigated at the telephony level to eventually identify the child’s mother. Contacted by the police in the evening, her mother, who is 24, went to the police station where she was taken into custody.

The hypothesis of a real abandonment of the child by the mother seems to have been rejected by the carabinieri. From a source close to the investigation, the facts may have stemmed more from a misunderstanding between the child’s mother and the child’s relatives over the child’s custody at the time. The mother thinking that the baby would be picked up by someone who would not understand him that way. In this way she could have learned from the police that her son was found on the street. A context that the police custody, continued this Tuesday at the Sarcelles Police Headquarters, must however clarify and establish.
