A Chartres college victim of bomb threats

Since Monday January 2, 2023, about twenty schools, colleges and high schools in different cities of France have been subjected to threats of bomb or explosive attacks against Digital Workspaces (ENT), an Internet portal that serves to connect parents, teachers and students, and to communicate and exchange information about the life of the plant – hacked. In Chartres, the Mathurin-Régnier college was targeted.

The threatening message was discovered on Wednesday January 4 by the principal of the institution, explains Evelyne Mège, academic director of the national education services in Eure-et-Loir:

“A student’s account appears to have been hacked,” he said. “The principal immediately informed me. In turn, I informed the rectorate and the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir.”

In the absence of the students, who had no lessons in the afternoon, the carabinieri carried out searches in the institute for more than an hour and a half. They found nothing suspicious.

The principal of the boarding school has informed the parents of the situation. As a precaution, the return of the students took place this Thursday morning under the surveillance of the police. “There was a visual check of the bags in the presence of the principal and the educational assistants,” indicates Evelyne Mège.

According to the Ministry of Education, contacted by AFP, “about twenty establishments (middle and high schools) in metropolitan France were affected by these messages threatening attacks, mainly in the academy of Lille, and to a lesser extent in those of Créteil, Grenoble, Versailles, Normandy and Lyon”.

“These messages were spotted by parents on WhatsApp, Snapchat or on ENT,” adds the ministry.

In Eure-et-Loir, the Mathurin-Régnier college is the only establishment affected by these threats of attack. A complaint has been filed.
