A cat killed by a lead shot, excitement in the Bagatelle district in Montpellier

The facts occurred in the middle of many homes. On their return from vacation, residents of Montpellier discovered the animal injured by a lead shot.

How far will human stupidity go? Returning from a few days of vacation last Monday, around 10 p.m., Montpellier residents found their three-year-old cat among several bloodstains, at their home on Allée Albert Soboul, in the Bagatelle district. Queen, who had entered through the cat flap, had suffered a serious injury to her abdomen.

“We took her to the veterinary emergency room, explains Christophe, her owner. Queen had three cardiac arrests during her treatment, and the third was fatal to her. She died the next morning from multiple injuries caused by a lead shot that damaged several vital organs.” On x-rays, the projectile is still visible, nestled near the spinal cord.

“Our neighbor, who watched over our cats, was with them for breakfast before leaving for work, Monday morning, around 7:15 a.m., specifies Christophe. The attack therefore took place during the day on Monday.

A complaint has been filed

And to clarify: “The wound shows that she was targeted in the stomach. And since she was not climbing trees, she was probably targeted while she was resting outside, lying on her side, as she was used to. .”

Which worries Christophe a lot. “Either she was shot while she was on our terrace or in our garden, or it was at a close neighbour’s house, since she never went far. Either way, it’s very dangerous, because the gardens and the houses are adjoining in the two streets.”

A note was distributed in the mailboxes of the two streets concerned to inform the neighborhood and to call for testimonies, without response to date. Christophe filed a complaint with the gendarmerie on Thursday. He also wrote to Eddine Ariztegui, Deputy Mayor for Animal Welfare.

“We don’t want a patient who shoots cats in the middle of houses to benefit from impunity, concludes Christophe. All we do is so that it doesn’t happen again.”
