Annika Bengtzon is personally affected by the murder of journalist Benny Ekland. She appreciated the work of the colleague with whom she occasionally spoke on the phone. A young ice hockey player, the only witness to the crime, is also killed shortly afterwards.
The alleged suicide of the politician Kurt Sandström seems to have nothing to do with the mysterious case – at least the police see no connection. Thanks to her persistence, however, the reporter finds out that the relatives each received anonymous letters with Mao quotes. The trail leads to a militant left-wing extremist group that carried out a bomb attack on an air force base in the 1970s that has never been fully explained.
The group called “The Red Wolf” was led by the charismatic ideologist Ragnwald. The fanatical activist went underground for decades, but now he has returned to call his comrades together for a conspiratorial meeting. Is there a threat of a new attack? And what does Swedish Culture Minister Karina Björnlund have to do with the “Red Wolf”?
In the middle of researching this sensational story, Annika finds out that her husband is cheating on her. When she uses her journalistic contacts to eliminate her rival through defamation, she is suspended from work. But Annika Bengtzon won’t let herself be stopped that easily.
