“Maybe Ohio is the new San Francisco!”, Jesse (Jesse Metzger) encourages himself. My career as a freelance artist is chronically bad. The end of the relationship with his long-time partner Ben has also not quite overcome Jesse. In order to escape emerging self-doubts including crises of meaning and to readjust their own compass, the mid-thirties wants to leave the pulsating queer metropolis and move back to the family in the province ?? after all, he saves the rent there.
Immediately after the opening credits it is pornographic to the point? After all, with “Naked Sword” there is a potent provider of adult films as the producer behind the cinema debut of director and author Travis Mathews. With his “In Their Room” short films he glanced into the queer bedrooms of Berlin or London, or seven years ago he staged the horrific documentary “Interior. Leather Bar” together with Hollywood star and Gernegroß artist James Franco, which focused on the Traces of “cruising” came up: “Oh God, is that brave”, the “Spiegel” etched not unjustly over that 60-minute wannabe avant-garde piece. The Berlinale teddy bear was also not in the mood for award cuddles, just as little as three years ago with the second prank feature “Discreet”.

Mathews can’t complain about a lack of malice in his cinema debut, which he knitted from his short film of the same name with the same actor. Too little action, some grumble, while too unattractive actors in the sex scenes complain about the others on relevant comment portals. In fact, the plot fits on half a beer mat. It is also true that the actors in popular porn castings would hardly have a great chance: rings under the eyes. Hair on the back. Too many pounds on the ribs. Too small in size. Too little stamina at the unhappy end.
This lack of story and market standards of beauty is of course part of the creative plan of author and director Mathews. Characters who lose their goals or who have settled in their own bladder complacent have an acute lack of action. And where sex is so much a part of everyday life as it is here, the various actors on the edge of the bed look correspondingly everyday. A carefree lookism porn whose characters at Grindr and Co. may need a lot of tolerance for frustration.
Three pubic lice from the same lover
They have, of course, trained them very well with the pubic louse infestation: Having caught such little pests three times in a row from the same dream type is really anything but funny? as a narrated punchline of the traumatized lover, however, extremely successful.
