A captivating thriller that plunges us into the darkness of a futuristic city

Rania, a young woman from a remote rural area, is not really happy to settle in the gigantic city of Nivalis but she has no choice. Riddled with debt and harassed by loan sharks, she is forced to accept a job as a deliverer for the company Cloudpunk. At the wheel of her flying car, she makes sure to transport the goods safely. The task is not really easy, especially since the company has a very bad reputation and we don’t really know what these cargoes contain…

A very unenviable future

Cloundpunk, the latest game from Merge Games, was developed by ION LANDS. It allows us to navigate a cyberpunk universe that is visually stunning. This is all the more so because it is the work of an independent studio that does not have the means of very large companies in the sector.

For history, the writers have drawn their references from the great classics of science fiction that are Blade Runner and The fifth Element. The gigantic city of Nivalis, that adventure allows us to visit long and wide, therefore represents a rather unenviable future where technology is of great importance. Besides the flying cars that are now part of everyday life, we are also dealing to augmented humans, androids. Artificial intelligence It is also used in all sauces and without any ethical concern.

The city is uneven in appearance and we can see that the poorest people live under the clouds and have to endure the falling rain continuously. The elites can free themselves from these inconveniences by settling in a very select area protected from the waters.

At the discretion of this fifteen-hour adventure, Rania will meet many characters and learn a lot more about the local context, which at first appears very confused. Cloudpunk’s dialogues are both its strength and its weakness. We appreciate indeed this captivating narrative and which it is very difficult to pick up. But some will blame the game for being too talkative at the expense of the action. Some bugs are also to be deplored during the foot phases during which the camera movements are not necessarily very pleasant. Nothing very serious, however, and we can hope that patches will soon correct the situation.

Cloudpunk is sold on Steam at the price of 19 € 99 and it will soon be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
