a campaign to raise awareness about access to property

Women who have had breast cancer have more difficulty taking out a mortgage. They are particularly penalized when subscribing to the insurance attached to the loan.

False announcements for a real problem. Women who have had breast cancer still encounter many difficulties in accessing property. In order to raise awareness on the subject, the CNP Assurances group (subsidiary of La Banque Postale) has launched an awareness campaign.

The company posts diverted ads on social media that read “Not for sale to women who have had breast cancer.” On the occasion of Pink October, CNP will relay this campaign, for example, in the classified ads sections of the regional press and on the SeLoger.com platform.

The objective is thus to alert people to the difficulties encountered by women in remission. “Either they have to wait, sometimes several years, before getting started, or the insurance companies refuse all or part of the guarantees, or these women have to pay much more,” explains the insurer.

“It is difficult to borrow, therefore to carry out projects and therefore to plan ahead”, notes the association My Breast Cancer network on his site.

“It’s the piling up of sentences…”

A loan immediately after treatment?

In France, the Ereas convention, signed for the first time between public authorities and insurance federations in 2006, established the right to be forgotten. This allows borrowers “not to provide information relating to their state of health, not to carry out a medical examination if they meet certain conditions”.

Since a law passed in 2022, the period of the right to be forgotten for people who have suffered from cancer or hepatitis C has been reduced from 10 to 5 years after the end of the therapeutic protocol (in the absence relapse). Furthermore, this law removed the medical questionnaire for property loans of less than 200,000 euros per person and for which the end of loan repayment occurs before the borrower’s 60th birthday.

But for women in remission who do not meet these criteria, CNP offers “a borrower insurance contract without additional premiums or reductions in guarantees” and “without waiting for the legal period of 5 years for the right to be forgotten”.

“This campaign aims to challenge and make as many people aware that yes, it is possible today and that we can dare to embark on a real estate project immediately after its treatment,” argues the general director of the Marie-Aude Thépaut company. More than 60,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in France.
