Two people received burns after an acid attack at a metro station in the Japanese capital, and the perpetrator is wanted, AFP and BNR reported, citing police and local media.
The attack took place at Shirokane Takanawa bus stop in a prestigious area of Tokyo on Tuesday night during the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games.
One of the victims, a 22-year-old businessman, received burns on his face after the suspect sprayed him with liquid on an escalator, a police spokesman told AFP. NHK public television reported that the man received severe burns from sulfuric acid.
A 34-year-old woman was also injured and received relatively minor burns to her legs.
The middle-aged attacker is wanted, police said.
Violent crimes are relatively rare in Japan, which has a strict law on the possession of firearms, but periodically has attacks with other weapons.
During the Olympics, on August 10, 10 people were injured, one of them seriously, in a cold steel attack on a passenger train in Tokyo. The suspect fled and was later found hanged.
