A bus with over 30 Ukrainian refugees collided on a motorway in Poland – NRK Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

The accident happened on Friday night at half-past ten on the motorway near the town of Szczecin, northwestern Poland.

– A truck hit the bus on the left side in front. There was so much damage that neither the bus nor the truck could drive on. One of the windows on the bus was broken and the glass splashed into the bus of the passengers sitting in the front of the bus. Three women had to be hospitalized, says Jan Helge Vassbø.

The buses have been severely delayed as a result of the accident, but now they are on their way to Norway again.

Vassbø, together with Olga Zetterstrøm, has been in the forefront of driving two buses from Sandnes in Rogaland down to the border between Poland and Ukraine.

There they have picked up about 65 Ukrainian refugees and were last night on their way back to Norway.

Had to return to the hospital

After the collision on the highway, the three women were transported to hospital.

Vassbø then started work on providing hotel rooms for the total of 75 people who were in the two white buses.

On Saturday morning, he was still unsure when they would be ready to leave.

– The problem is that one of the women had to return to the hospital, because the injury was so great that she could not travel further with the rest of us, says Vassbø.

Is now on his way to Norway

At 10.45, Vassbø writes in a message to NRK that both buses are on their way to Norway. They take a boat from Poland to Denmark at 4 pm on Saturday afternoon. Furthermore, they drive over the Øresund Bridge, through Sweden and to the refugee reception center in Råde in Østfold.

The woman who had to return to the hospital is also in the travel party, Vassbø confirms.

The plan was for the buses to reach the border with Norway on Saturday afternoon, but will now be many hours late.

NRK has previously mentioned that Jan Helge Vassbø actually wanted to take more refugees with him, but confusion around biometric passports meant that there were no more than 65.
