The accident occurred at six o’clock in the morning near the town of Slavonski Brod on the highway between Zagreb and the border with Serbia. According to police, the bus had a Kosovo license plate and it was a regular connection between Germany and the Kosovo capital Pristina, which lies south of Serbia.

It is not yet clear whether people from the Czech Republic were on the bus. The causes of the accident are being investigated.

There were over 60 people on the bus
There were sixty-five passengers on the bus, including fifteen children, and two drivers.

The wounded were taken to a hospital in Slavnoski Brod. “At first it was not clear whether and how many were seriously injured,” said local police chief Franjo Galić. He described the accident as “one of the worst he has ever seen”.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković expressed his sorrow and sincere condolences to the victims. “We hope the injury recovers,” Plenkovic tweeted.

The highway where the bus crashed is a key Croatian transport artery, which is busy especially in the summer due to tourism and workers returning home from Western Europe.
