Pavlina Mitkova is on trial for murder in Italy
Pavlina Mitkova, 39, will stand trial in the Italian town of Macerata for the murder of her six-year-old daughter Jennifer. So decided the magistrates of the city, located in the Marche region.

Nearly 14 months after the death of the child, which shocked the villagers, the judge from the preliminary investigation in Macerata decided to bring Jennifer’s mother to court in June 2021.
According to investigators, there is no doubt that Mitkova deliberately caused a fire in her home, such as

She even burned her face and hands during the fire. According to Mitkova’s initial confessions to the carabinieri, the burns were the result of her attempts to get Jennifer out of the burning room.
However, her story did not convince them from the beginning, as the girl had no signs of burns on herself, as would happen in such a case. The child’s body was not even touched by the flames. Experts later found through a toxicological study that

substances in the blood
and in the child’s lungs, as in a fire suffocation. However, swelling was found on the child’s face between his mouth and nose. So after two autopsies, it was concluded that Jennifer was strangled with a pillow by her mother.
Now, however, investigators need to clarify many of the unknown aspects of the crime, and most of all, the motive for the murder.
According to the daily Il Resto del Carlino, one of the Bulgarian’s lawyers, Gian Marco Sabioni, requested a psychiatric examination for his client.
“There is still a lot to clarify. First of all, whether the girl was really killed, given that our consultant in the process hypothesized that he may have become ill. Furthermore, there is no motive for the crime. A

That is why I asked the judge to order a psychiatric examination of Pavlina Mitkova, who, given her unstable mental state, also spent a period of time in prison psychiatry, ”said lawyer Sabioni.
However, his request was rejected by the judge, who instead accepted the indictment in the person of Francesca Perlini. Thus, in the end, Pavlina Mitkova will be tried for the premeditated murder of Jennifer, and the fact that she is her daughter will serve as an aggravating circumstance.

Experts found that the body of the dead child was without burns and had been stiff for a much longer time than when the fire broke out. A medical examiner later determined that he had been dead three hours before the fire.
