After a two-year hiatus, a Bulgarian church delegation will once again go to Jerusalem to bring the Holy Fire for Easter. This was stated for BGNES by Metropolitan Kyprian of Stara Zagora.
This year, Easter falls on April 16. In 2022, the Grace Fire of 2021 was used, which was kept in the Synodal Chapel “St. Tsar Boris-Michael”.
Every year on Holy Saturday at the Holy Sepulchre, the Holy Fire falls from the sky into the hands of the Patriarch of Jerusalem. To this day, the mystery remains unsolved, although many scientists have built hypotheses.
The grace fire symbolizes the miraculous light of the Resurrection of Christ, which the Apostle Peter also spoke of and is considered a holy place for believers. His appearance on the eve of the Orthodox Easter through the prayers of the Orthodox patriarch, the clergy and thousands of pilgrims is called “the miracle of the descent of the Holy Fire”.
In recent years, the Holy Fire has fallen into the trap of the coronavirus.
In 2020, in the main sanctuary of the Christian world – the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the prayer service for the Holy Fire took place behind closed doors. Then the streets of Jerusalem were deserted and the usual pilgrims who walk the Via Dolorosa (Via Dolorosa – The Way of Suffering) on the eve of the Catholic Easter celebrations were missing. Then the fire was not brought to Bulgaria, but a part of the one that was brought in 2019 was used.
In 2021, the fire was brought by Bishop Grigory of Vratsa with the government “Falcon”. Then the Bulgarian church delegation received the Holy Fire from our ambassador in Israel, but because of the strict measures, the clergy waited in the government plane and did not reach the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
