In August of this year, the State Police found a brothel in a multi-apartment building in Riga, where persons from abroad were employed as prostitutes. According to the State Police, the police detained a man born in 1981 on suspicion of setting up, maintaining, running, financing and pimping a brothel in a group of persons, thus terminating the operation of the brothel.
After checking the received information, the law enforcement officers of the Riga Region Criminal Police Department found a brothel in an apartment building in Riga in August, which had been installed in several rented apartments.
During a series of investigations, on September 4, State Police officials arrested the owner of the brothel, a man born in 1981 who had not previously been in the police’s sight, on suspicion of pimping. The court imposed a security measure on the man – detention.
As part of the criminal proceedings, several searches were carried out in places where sexual services were provided, as well as 13 persons involved in prostitution were identified. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing and all parties involved and the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
In connection with the incident, criminal proceedings have been initiated pursuant to Section 165 (2) of the Criminal Law – for pimping, if committed by a group of persons. Such a criminal offense is punishable by up to eight years ‘imprisonment with or without confiscation of property and up to three years’ probation supervision.
