a breathtaking natural landscape

The first encounter with the landscape is breathtaking. It’s hard to imagine, walking in the Orscholz forest, that the path can lead to such a belvedere. One hundred and fifty meters below, the Saar forms an astonishing natural loop in the shape of a horseshoe. The curve is so perfect that it seems to have been drawn by Man. Called the Saar loop (Saarschleife), this unique panorama is the most beautiful postcard of the Land of Saarland and its number 1 tourist attraction with more than 200,000 visitors per year.

A wooden cathedral

Specializing in suspended routes, the private company Erlebenis Akademie AG has installed one of its summit paths (Baumwipfelpfad) there, for a fee, but accessible to tourists with reduced mobility or families with strollers. The walk, all in wood, rises by a gentle slope never exceeding 6% to reach a peak of 23 meters. 1,250 meters long, this original path among beeches, oaks and Douglas-fir, at the height of branches, offers a walk in the canopy, this upper layer of the forest normally inaccessible. Educational stations on the surrounding nature and games for children punctuate this course. It ends with a cathedral of wood and steel 42 meters high. We climb to its summit by a helical ramp without stairs. It opens onto a 70 m2 platform that follows the movement of the trees, offering a unique 360-degree belvedere. On a clear day, you can see the Vosges. Below, La Forêt d’aventure was built in 2020, a remarkable wooden playground of more than 7,000 m2. The company also has its own restaurant, a self-service at a very attractive price, much more intimate than the restaurant at the entrance to the site.

The Chemin des Cimes opens at 9:30 a.m. daily until 7 p.m. from May to September. Two evenings are scheduled on Fridays August 20 until 9 p.m. and September 17 until 8 p.m. Prices: € 11 for an adult, € 9 for a child aged 6 to 14. Family ticket at € 26.
