The image of a protesting girl has occupied the Chinese in recent hours on social media, bravely defying riot police, and reminded them of the man who stood in front of tanks during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.
The girl, whose identity has not been revealed, has been dubbed the “new tank lady” after she refused to budge when security men ordered her to stop filming during protests that swept across several regions of the country against the closures imposed due to crown.
The footage showed the brave woman standing idly by as police officers surrounded her and stole her phone before hitting her, according to British newspaper The Sun.
Note that it is unclear what happened next to the woman, as the security forces forced the photographer to stop recording.
“tank man”
While this stunning footage brought to mind the case of the “tank man” who stood in front of a line of military vehicles during the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, his image quickly became a symbol of the democracy movement in China.
Interestingly, protests have erupted in China after the city of Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang region, witnessed a devastating fire, angering residents of the city, which has been closed for 100 days due to the upsurge of the Corona virus.

The incident, amid the city’s lockdown, angered residents, who posted criticism on social media, as video clips showed fire vehicles waiting to clear checkpoints set up to shut down the city due of the Crown.
