A Reddit user with the name u/cryptoflipo posted a picture of his new Model Y, which was made in Fremont, California. In the photos shared on the social network channel, it is clear that significant parts of the door’s so-called “seams” are still white-primed.
“Anyone else with a similar case? I received this 2023 Model Y at the end of September, it was built in September at the Fremont plant,” wrote u/cryptoflipo. “Actually, I just noticed this and I’m a little shocked.”
In the comments, the user mentions that the photos may exaggerate the extent of the paint problem and explains that it is mostly visible with the door open. However, several other users in the Reddit thread reported experiencing similar problems with the paint, indicating that this may be a recurring quality issue at the paint shop rather than an isolated glitch.
Tesla’s quality control issues aren’t new, but over the past year things have seemed to change and the company has significantly raised quality. However, this example does not appear to be anything like that at all.
