Just before the weekend, EA could confirm that the recent rumors were true, as they revealed a brand new Need for Speed game. The game is called Need for Speed Unbound and will be released in a couple of months, on December 2nd of this year.
The game focuses on street racing set in an open world, where a new graffiti-inspired graphic style will allow players to express themselves in entirely new ways. You can also expect “tuning” and police chases, and it looks like the “heat” system from the previous game in the series has also been continued.
We have the advantage of seeing the game in action, but an announcement trailer (which you can watch above) gives a small impression of what we have in store.
The longest hiatus since 1997
Need for Speed Unbound abandons the previous generation of consoles and will instead be exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S and Windows.
A curiosity related to the game, is the fact that Need for Speed Unbound comes three years after the previous game in the series, Raceren 2019 Need for Speed Heat. If we ignore the Hot Pursuit Remastered renovation project from 2020this is a stay that has only occurred once before in the series, and was between the first and second games, in 1994 and 1997 respectively.
The game is developed by Criterion Games’ ring foxes, after the previous studio, Ghost Games, disbanded and transformed into EA Gothenburg in 2020.
