This Saturday, June 25, a 12-year-old child died following a drowning in the Rhône at Chasse-sur-Rhône in Isère. Her sister, a 6-year-old girl, was pulled out of the water by witnesses before being taken to hospital in Vienna.
It is a drama that took place on Saturday June 25, around 5:25 p.m., in Chasse-sur-Rhône, in Isère. Two children who were bathing in the Rhône found themselves in difficulty, according to our colleagues from France Bleu.
The 12-year-old boy did not survive. Rescued by firefighters in cardio-respiratory arrest, he could not be revived. As for her sister, a 6-year-old girl, she was pulled out of the water by witnesses before the arrival of the firefighters, who then transported her to hospital in Vienna.
Very shocked, the mother was also taken care of and taken to the hospital. The family is originally from Givors, a town located just on the other side of the Rhône.
A place known to be dangerous
Christophe Bouvier, mayor of Chasse-sur-Rhône, explains that it is forbidden to swim there: “Despite the prohibition signs, it is common for families or young people to meet there».
The tragedy took place at the level of the footbridge going from Chasse-sur-Rhône to Givors, place where «the Rhône forms a bend and with the bridge, it causes whirlpools with a fairly violent current“explains the mayor.
Here the children had then wanted to soak their feet, but went too far and were swept away.
