A bookseller produces an original cuvée: limited and illustrated bottle

Obviously, alcohol abuse is bad for your health, drink sensibly, play sports, and eat vegetables – if the roar of the boiled carrot doesn’t make you shudder. That said, what are we talking about? Well of the not really secret passion of Matthieu Saint-Denis, owner of Krazy Kat, in Bordeaux, for wine. And if he has decided to make the bookstore his profession, the wine world remains a real passion.

If he doesn’t draw himself, he has the art of spotting the best and showcasing them in his bookstore – the largest in the southwest entirely devoted to the 9th art. Never short of ideas, Matthieu Saint-Denis has found how to combine his two hobbyists in the same fetish object: a bottle of wine whose label will be drawn each year by a local artist, in a limited edition, signed and numbered.

A special sale will therefore be organized from June 17 and until June 20, for a special draw – organized as the start of Bordeaux Fête le Vin, a celebration known to locals.

KRAZY KAT: the dream bookstore of the greedy reader

The idea is to immerse an author in his memories of reader, and by a drawing, to pay homage to a comic book album which particularly moved him during the year of harvest of the vintage.

The cru in question, and partner for the occasion, will therefore be Château Réaut, whose bookstore has also been co-owner since 2019 of vines on the estate. Red, white and rosé wines have already been awarded, never before have they been the subject of a layout.

Alfred, center

The Bordeaux artist Alfred, immersed in 2016, the vintage that was attributed to him, thus salutes Martha et Alan, by Emmanuel Guibert. A nod from an award-winning artist to another winner of the Angoulême Festival, since Emmanuel Guibert, several times finalist, received the Grand Prix in 2020 (award given to an artist for all of his work).

It is currently the subject of a major exhibition at the Angoulême museum (visible until June 27). In line with the universe of his illustrious colleague, Alfred’s drawing pays tribute to nature, childhood, innocence and the pleasure of play.

CANDY: the clit gang “publishes” a sweetness

And the keel? We’re getting there…. Limited to 240 numbered copies, signed by the author, the bottle of Kat de Réaut 2016 is available at the Krazy Kat bookstore at a price of € 14.90 to take away or € 17.90 on site. Each year a new local author will illustrate a new label. In 2022, the 2017 vintage will be released with a label tribute to a comic book published that year.

We have to imagine that in Bordeaux, the work around wine is conducive to inspiring the actors of the publishing industry: in 2018, ActuaLitté had met Mauro Ceballos, an artist from Chile, who had decided to tell the story of Chilean wines and Bordeaux, drawing … with wine, of course.
