An unusual situation has just occurred in a UK library. They returned a book that had been taken down almost 300 years ago.
This happened in Sheffield Cathedral, in England. The operators received a package in the mail and inside contained the book, with a note explaining that its owner, who had recently died, requested in his will that the relic be returned to the library.
The Reverend Canon Keit Farrow, vice dean and missionary canon of the cathedral, the book could be from the Gregorian period, between the years 1714 to 1830, when the cathedral already functioned as a library.
“We are not sure where the building was. We have some books from that period from the early Georgian onwards, so we think that probably at the time of the first rearrangement of the church in the late Georgian period, the library was probably scattered, “he said.
The book is called The Faith and Practice of a Man of the Church of England. It will now be displayed as an attraction for those visiting Sheffield Cathedral.
