It sounds surreal but it will happen. Dayot Upamecano will play for Bayer Munich next season but will have to start the pre-season with RB Leipzig, the club he has represented in recent seasons.
According to picture, the French central defender’s contract with RB Leipzig runs until 15 July, meaning that the termination due to the payment of the clause by the Bavarians, in the amount of 42.5 million euros, can only happen after that day.
The German newspaper reveals that the Bavarians will be able to ‘cancel’ this clause in the contract if they pay around 200,000 euros to the rival club, something that will not happen, so Upamecano will even have to report for service on July 5, the starting day of the pre-season of RB Leipzig.
“It would make a lot more sense for Upamecano to start the season with us but, given this contractual situation, we hope they do it at their former club,” said Florian Scholz, commercial director of Bayern Munich.
