Miguel Ribeiro and Pedro Roxo are the two candidates for the presidency of Académica for the elections on June 4th.
Both lists were delivered at the end of the day of this Friday, after the deadline stipulated by the convening notice prepared by the Board of the General Meeting.
In the case of Miguel Ribeiro, who heads the List C, and who has the designation of «Académica com futuro», it is a name that is also well known in the academic world, since he was general director of training at Briosa between 2012 and 2016, when the students were chaired by José Eduardo Simões.
Speaking to A BOLA, the 51-year-old lawyer explains the reasons for his candidacy. «We are going to try to recover Académica, stabilizing it, so that the club can regain sporting success. Basically, get back on the trail of your history. Liga 3 is not, at all, the place for Académica. We face this challenge with a true spirit of mission, so that it is an Academic with a future. This reality is not in line with the academic dimension. And if we remember that, precisely today, we celebrate 10 years of winning the Portuguese Cup, then the current situation is really highly worrying. We want to create conditions for Académica to fill all its members and supporters with pride”, he said.
It should also be added that, in this List C, Fernando Barata Alves is the candidate for chairman of the Board of the General Meeting, António Preto is running for the Supervisory Board and Luís Neves is number one for the Academic Council.
With regard to Pedro Roxo, it is the re-election of the current president who, remember, has been in office since 2017. Now, and even after the club’s descent to Liga 3, the student leader does not abandon ship and presents a new perspective: the entry of a group of investors, presented at the end of this season, and which promises to be the foundation for the eventual change of the corporate model, from SDUQ to SAD, which logically needs the approval of the shareholders in the Assembly General convened for this purpose.
Pedro Roxo presents himself on the D List, which has the slogan of «Académica com vida», and at the time of his re-election, A BOLA assumed what he intends to do in the new term, in case he is the winner of the suffrage. «We have a responsibility, before Académica and its members, to defend our project and definitively restructure the club. We assume that the moment is not positive, but we are here to be part of the solution. The question of any change in the corporate model will always depend on the associates, and we will continue to inform the partners about this project of ours », he concluded.
From List D, and as candidates for the remaining Governing Bodies, João Paulo Pinto Mendes is running for the Board of the General Meeting, Pedro Peão for the Supervisory Board, with Horácio Antunes being number one on the Academic Board.
