There were those who looked with suspicion on the signing of Sarabia, those who put their hands on their heads in some of the goals missed by Paulinho or those who were incredulous with the drought of goals from Pedro Gonçalves. But the truth is that the usual starting trio of the Sporting team’s attack continues to give music to the goals and make the difference when shooting on goal.
Obviously, to reach the goal, there is a whole team work that cannot be disregarded – see Nuno Santos’ goal in the Dragão classic as one of the best examples of what has just been written – but these three violins really do the difference in attack.
Among them, there is even a private duel for the title of top scorer of the team – Pedro Gonçalves, top scorer of the League in the previous season, continues to not leave the credits in the hands of others and leads with two more goals than Paulinho and Sarabia – and all together they are almost responsible for half of the lion’s goals this season. But, if we add the assists of this trio for other players to score (and in this equation, obviously, the assists between them are removed), then the influence of this trident on the team’s offensive process becomes even more blatant: they are directly linked to 50 of the 81 goals that Sporting scored on all fronts, the same is to say that they are responsible for almost 62 percent of the goals achieved. A number and influence of the usual first-team attacking trio that no one is indifferent to.
