Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has labeled two of the greatest legends in the club’s recent past, Casillas and Raul, as frauds. The Spanish newspaper El Confidencial revealed this Tuesday a series of recordings of the president, prior to 2006, in which he criticizes both former players, who are now part of the structure of the cube – Raul as coach and Casillas as manager.
The recordings predate 2006, the year he resigned, returning three years later. In them, harshly criticizes the two players. “Casillas is not Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, what do you want me to tell you? It is not. The point is, it never was. It was the big mistake we made. What happens is that everyone loves him, everyone likes him, everyone talks to him, defends him so much… Well, it’s one of the great frauds, and the second is Raúl. Real Madrid’s two biggest frauds are, firstly, Raúl, and secondly, Casillas», says Florentino Pérez in the recording, provided to the newspaper by one of the participants in the conversation.
Raul is the second highest scorer in the club’s history and currently coaches Castilla, the B team, and there were even rumors that he could be invited to the position of head coach after Zidane’s departure. In the audio, the president accuses him of “destroying” the club and points to him as one of the reasons for resigning in 2006.
Casillas recently returned after finishing his career at FC Porto and is part of the club’s structure, as vice-president of the Foundation.
The president also criticizes footballers in general: “The players are very selfish, you can’t count on them for anything, and whoever counts on them is deceived. I have a horrible image of the players.»
