João Noronha Lopes, candidate defeated in Benfica’s last elections, reacted to the statement issued by the club’s Board, led by Luís Filipe Vieira.
“It is time for candidate Noronha Lopes to respect the mandate given by the Benfica’s associative mass, in the most contested elections ever, and to carry out what he said he wanted to do: get away!”, was read in the statement issued by the Board, issued on Wednesday night, to which now Noronha Lopes replied:
«The communiqués that the board of Benfica has dedicated to me reveal disorientation and insecurity, and move away from the required elevation to the presidency of the club.
Luís Filipe Vieira continues not to respond to the partners, to evade scrutiny, not to give an interview to a free media organization, and to remain focused on solving his personal problems. Unable to take responsibility, it seeks once again to create a blame for Benfica’s failures, now in the form of an internal enemy.
They don’t intimidate me, I don’t give up on my Benfica citizenship. As much as it costs him, it is not up to Luís Filipe Vieira to choose when Benfica fans should comment on issues they consider critical for Benfica’s future. Luís Filipe Vieira continues to demonstrate that he does not understand the club he presides over and the supporters he should represent.”
