A BOLA – New NBA rules benefit Nehemiah Queta (NBA)

The proliferation of new Covid-19 cases led the NBA, the US basketball league, to take new steps. Just last Sunday, five games were postponed (one was to be played on Tuesday and another on Wednesday) due to outbreaks in teams.

In order to avoid further delays, the NBA and the Players Union (NBPA) reached an agreement to change the rules and allow more flexibility for teams in hiring athletes. One of them benefits Neemias Queta, a Portuguese post that is in the Sacramento Kings and became the first Portuguese player to act in the main basketball championship in the world.

With a two-way contract with the Kings, Nehemiah was limited to 50 games for the Sacramento team (there was no limit on games for the Stockton Kings, an affiliate who plays in the G-League). With the new agreement, this limitation ceases to exist and, if they exceed 50 matches, the athletes will be financially compensated.

Added to this is the possibility for teams to hire a player for each positive case of Covid-19. The salary of these athletes will not count towards the annual salary cap, so as not to limit the athletes.
