José Mourinho spoke to British radio Talksport about the situation in Portugal at Euro-2020. The coach believes the National Team can beat France this Wednesday, but he also says that Bruno Fernandes has to do more.
“I believe that, even with three points, Portugal will qualify on goal difference. Portugal, at its best level, can beat any team, but for that it has to play with 11 players. In the last two games Bruno Fernandes was on the field but didn’t play,” said Mourinho, finishing off: “I hope he turns the game against France, because he’s a player with incredible potential, makes passes, goals, scores penalties, free kicks… He has a lot to give, but it hasn’t actually been in these last two games. Portugal have three fantastic players in attack (Bernardo, Cristiano and Jota) and they need that connection with Bruno.»
In individual terms, the Portuguese coach also spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo, stressing: «He changed his game, he is no longer a free winger, he is clearly a number 9. He reduced his individual action and is very intelligent in managing his position. He remains a very important player.”
