Léo Martins is among the three finalists for the award for best beach football player in the world. The National Team player is nominated to collect the award at the Beach Soccer Stars 2021, an event scheduled for November 6th, in Dubai.
This season, the player won for the third time the title of European champion by Portugal, being distinguished as the best player in the European League, in addition to having won the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese championship by SC Braga, being also runner-up in the Euro Winners for the Minho club.
Speaking to the Portuguese Football Federation, Léo Martins was proud of the distinction: «I’m very happy, it’s the result of a lot of work. Now we have to wait to see who will be the winner. To be honest, I never really thought about this reality. However, from the moment we began to move forward with this possibility, the truth is that an expectation and a hope began to arise within us. Now that I’m among the three finalists it’s clear that it becomes a goal. I’m very calm, I have faith and I believe that the result will be the best» said the player.
The Portuguese international also analyzed the moment in a way that allowed him to be among the nominees: «When I look at my path, I get emotional when I remember the people who helped me get here. I thank God, my family, my wife, my brother Bê Martins, Bruno Torres too. To all my teammates in SC Braga and in the National Team, as well as their coaches. I dedicate this appointment to all of them. Without them, I couldn’t be at this level.».
Philipp Borer (Switzerland) and Ozu Moreira (Japan) are also in the running for the title of best beach soccer player in the world, and none of the three finalists have this distinction in their curriculum. To win the award, Léo Martins will succeed another Portuguese: Jordan Santos, current title holder, won in 2019.
