João Almeida (DQT) was classified on Wednesday in third place in the classic Milan-Turin, in the distance of 190 km, which started in Magenta and ended at the Basilica of Superga, with victory by Primoz Roglic (TJV), who cut the isolated goal.
With a platoon made up of 161 cyclists, the race was very tactical, with the Deceuninck-Quick Step putting six of the seven runners on a run, which, by printing a strong pace, completely fragmented the platoon that divided into small groups attacked the stage Final. The double passage through the Superga climb was decisive in putting the strongest in front. Vansevenant (DQT), in an advanced position, was eventually neutralized when the first ramps appeared, where the attack by Adam Yates (IGD) took Primoz Roglic, João Almeida and Tadej Pogaçar (UAD) on the wheel.
With the four making the difference, Roglic and Yates distanced themselves in the last two kilometers of the oldest classic in the world, with the Slovenian not giving the Brit a chance and João Almeida beat his future teammate Pogaçar over the final risk, winning over the third place.
“Today [ontem] I couldn’t do more because the opponents were stronger. When Yates attacked and took Roglic I couldn’t respond. The team had done a great job, but with no chance of being first or second, I fought for the last place on the podium, sprinting better than Pogaçar», declared João Almeida to A BOLA.
