The winger Ivan Cavaleiro is one of the main new features in Angola’s squad for the first qualifying rounds for the 2022 World Cup against Egypt and Gabon, on the 2nd and 5th of September.
The former Benfica player, now at Fulham, played several games for Portugal’s youth teams and has two caps for the A team, but benefits from the relaxation of FIFA rules on nationality change to make his debut in a squad of black sables.
In the same condition is Hélder Costa, who had already been called up by coach Pedro Gonçalves for the African Nations Cup matches, in March, but ended up not playing against Gambia and Gabon.
In the call, which are represented by several players who are active in Portuguese clubs, two more debuts are highlighted: Kevin Bukusu, central defender of NEC Nijmegen, and Giovani Bamba, midfielder of Stade Lausanne.
