João Mário evaluated in an interview with BTV the first weeks at Benfica, talking about the club’s current affairs, the adaptation with Jorge Jesus and also the reasons that led him to terminate with Inter and accept a proposal from the incarnates.
“I knew the club, but not inside. It has all the conditions and gives all the conditions for players to be focused on what they control: fieldwork, training and the game. I am a very calm person by nature. I arrived at Benfica with the certainty of what I wanted, with a clear conscience. Many people helped me. The fact that I met many people who work at Benfica helped, colleagues who had already shared the dressing room with me in the National Team. All of this helped make my start go smoothly, and I also had the conviction that it was important to enter Benfica well and that things went well for me», said the 20 jersey.
«There were other teams that came to me, even from other more competitive championships, but I thought it was the ideal option to continue my career. Although it was a difficult choice, I’m sure it was the right one”, he stressed.
João Mário also spoke at the reunion with Jorge Jesus: «The adaptation is due to the fact that he has already worked with the master. This is a factor that makes a lot of difference, especially on the field, to be adapted to the team. The fact that I already knew the master’s ideas and that I met some colleagues made me adapt more quickly. I have to thank you. He is exactly the same. There is a very high demand, not only in terms of fieldwork, training. He is a unique person because he manages to place a great demand on everyone.”
