The UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Control Committee (CEDB) decided this Friday to punish Hungary with three games behind closed doors, for the “discriminatory behavior” of its supporters in the matches against Portugal, France and Germany at Euro-2020, two of them played in Budapest.
“The CEDB has decided to order the Hungarian Football Association to play its next three matches of UEFA competitions as a host behind closed doors, the third of which will be suspended for a two-year probationary period from the date of the decision, for discriminatory behavior of its supporters», can be read in the note published by UEFA, in which it also adds a fine of 100,000 euros.
The body does not specify what kind of behavior was detected in the three Group F games, against Portugal (0-3) and France (1-1) in Budapest and against Germany (2-2) in Munich.
The Hungarian Federation is also ordered to display a “#EqualGame” tag with the UEFA logo.
This CEDB decision applies only to the games of national teams in competitions organized by UEFA and not to the qualifiers in the European qualifying zone for the 2022 World Cup, in Qatar, a competition under FIFA’s jurisdiction.
In Hungary-Portugal, the captain of the Portuguese team, Cristiano Ronaldo, was the target of homophobic insults during the match, with similar situations involving insults to the French Kylian Mbappé and Karim Benzema.
